HVAC Duct Machinery for Heavy Industrial Manufacturing
Heavy-gauge SBAL-V auto duct lines, SBTF spiral tubeformers and complementary welded duct fabrication equipment for heavy industrial manufacturing facilities. SBKJ covers the building and worker-comfort HVAC scope — pulpit and control room HVAC, electrical and substation room HVAC, maintenance workshop, lab and admin building HVAC, worker comfort cooling supply runs — across steel mills, cement plants, paper and pulp mills, automotive paint shops and composite manufacturing facilities.
Heavy industrial HVAC at a glance
Heavy industrial manufacturing facilities are among the most demanding HVAC environments in Australia and globally. Process temperatures reach 1,500°C+ (steel hot strip), 1,400°C+ (smelter), 1,450°C (cement clinker), 850°C (paper machine dryer); particulate loadings reach 100-500 g/Nm³ (cement kiln dust, steel slag, fly ash); corrosive gases include H&sub2;S TRS (kraft pulp), ClO&sub2; (paper bleaching), HF (alumina smelter), SO&sub2; (copper smelter); and worker heat stress requires WBGT monitoring with refrigerated pulpit cooling.
SBKJ machinery serves the building and worker-comfort HVAC scope across all of these heavy industrial verticals. The process exhaust duct itself (handling kiln gas, off-gas, smelter exhaust) is fabricated by specialist welded process duct shops and is beyond SBKJ's standard SBAL-V and SBTF machinery scope.

SBKJ machinery scope at heavy industrial sites
- Pulpit and control room HVAC: Positive-pressure refuge with hermetic seal, redundant cooling, particulate intake filtration. SBAL-V galvanised standard with optional 304L stainless for chemical-bearing atmospheres. Typical 50-150 m³/hr per workstation.
- Electrical and substation room HVAC: High reliability, particulate intrusion control critical. Air change rate 5-15 ACH with redundant cooling units. SBAL-V galvanised standard.
- Maintenance workshop HVAC: Comfort cooling for workshop activities, exhaust for welding fume capture, dust extraction at machining stations. SBAL-V + SBTF combination.
- Worker comfort cooling supply: SBTF spiral tubeformer for round duct supply runs to operator zones. Corrosion-resistant variant where atmosphere requires.
- Laboratory and quality control HVAC: Cleanroom-grade for some pharmaceutical-adjacent labs, standard commercial HVAC for general QC.
- Admin and visitor centre HVAC: Standard commercial-grade galvanised SBAL-V.
Australian decarbonisation transition
Australian heavy industry is mid-transition through a multi-decade decarbonisation programme:
- Green steel: BlueScope Port Kembla H&sub2;-DRI conceptual study, Liberty Steel Whyalla EAF + DRI conversion under restart programme, Roy Hill iron ore HBI study, Fortescue green hydrogen + green iron Pilbara strategy.
- Cement decarbonisation: Boral CleanTech Cement, Holcim ECOPlanet, Adbri sustainability programmes including alternative cementitious materials (geopolymer, calcined clay, slag-supplemented cements).
- Aluminium electrification: Tomago Aluminium NSW renewable PPA strategy, Boyne Smelter Gladstone QLD renewable strategy, Bell Bay Aluminium Tas (already on Tasmanian hydropower).
- Paper mill biomass CHP: Visy biomass cogeneration, Opal Australian Paper Maryvale biomass strategy.
- Mining electrification: Underground mine ventilation electrification (heat reduction without diesel particulate), surface processing electrification.
Each of these transitions adds new HVAC scope at the affected sites: H&sub2;-DRI ironmaking adds ATEX/IECEx zones around shaft furnace, oxy-fuel kiln cement plants change exhaust gas chemistry, EAF mini-mills reduce particulate but add electrical room HVAC scope. SBKJ machinery serves the evolving HVAC scope across these decarbonisation projects.
