HVAC Duct Machinery for Tunnel and Infrastructure Projects
Heavy-duty SBAL-V auto duct lines, SBTF spiral tubeformers and welded duct fabrication equipment for tunnel ventilation projects: road tunnels, rail and metro tunnels, hydropower tunnels (Snowy 2.0), mining declines. AS 4825, NFPA 502, NFPA 130 compliance support, hot smoke testing per AS 4391. SBKJ machinery serves the Australian tunnel infrastructure cycle (Sydney Metro, Melbourne Metro Tunnel, West Gate, North East Link, Snowy 2.0, Inland Rail, WestConnex) and global tunnel projects.
Tunnel HVAC at a glance
Tunnel ventilation is one of the most demanding applications of industrial HVAC ductwork. Heavy-gauge galvanised duct (1.5-3.0 mm) is the standard for road and rail tunnel ventilation main supply and exhaust, with stainless 316L for corrosive environments. The HVAC duct package alone for a major Australian tunnel project is typically AUD 50-200 million; Snowy 2.0 (world's largest pumped hydro) is in the AUD 200-400 million HVAC scope range.
The current Australian tunnel infrastructure cycle is unprecedented. Active projects include Sydney Metro (City and Southwest, Western Sydney Airport, Bankstown line), Melbourne Metro Tunnel (5 new underground stations + 9km twin tunnels), West Gate Tunnel and North East Link (Melbourne), Snowy 2.0 (NSW), Inland Rail (NSW/Qld freight), WestConnex and Western Harbour Tunnel (Sydney), Bruce Highway upgrade and Cross River Rail (Queensland). Combined, AUD 50+ billion of active tunnel infrastructure carrying multi-billion-dollar HVAC duct demand.
Tunnel categories and HVAC requirements
- Road tunnels: Longitudinal jet fan or transverse ceiling exhaust, smoke management per AS 4825/NFPA 502, hot smoke testing per AS 4391.
- Rail and metro tunnels: Train piston effect aerodynamics per EN 14067, station HVAC integration, platform-screen-door, ventilation shaft locations per NFPA 130.
- Hydropower tunnels: Penstock ventilation (waterproof), transformer chamber cooling, valve hall HVAC, control room positive-pressure refuge.
- Mining decline tunnels: Main intake/return drift HVAC (overlap with mining ventilation hub).
- Cable utility tunnels: Power cable cooling ventilation, telecommunications conduit HVAC.
SBKJ machinery for tunnel projects
- SBAL-V auto duct line (heavy-gauge galvanised): Up to 1.5 mm gauge G275 rectangular duct for tunnel transverse exhaust sections.
- SBTF spiral tubeformer: Round duct Φ100–Φ2,000 mm for tunnel ventilation supply, return air paths and exhaust shaft sub-distribution.
- Welded duct fabrication equipment: Smoke management duct rated 250°C for 2 hours minimum (EN 12101-3).
- TDF flange former: Tight-leakage rectangular flange for pressurised refuge area duct.
- Stainless variant SBAL-V and SBTF: 316L for chloride-rich coastal road tunnels and rail dust acid environments.
