Typical applications. Sheet metal cutting equipment is the first step in every duct fabrication workflow — coil stock or flat sheet has to be cut to the right developed length before any forming operation can begin. Modern duct shops use a mix of laser cutting (highest precision and quality, ideal for stainless and complex fittings), plasma cutting (fast and cost-effective for galvanized) and shearing (simple straight cuts for high-volume work). Most full-scale duct factories run at least one of each.

Where this fits in your workshop

Cutting, bending and forming machines are the upstream stations of any duct workshop. Coil stock is sheared to length, scored and bent into the duct shape, and then handed off to the seam closer or the TDF former. On an SBAL-V auto duct line these operations are integrated into a single coil-to-duct line; on a manual or semi-auto workshop they are stand-alone stations operated by 2–4 staff.
