Typical applications. Sheet metal cutting equipment is the first step in every duct fabrication workflow — coil stock or flat sheet has to be cut to the right developed length before any forming operation can begin. Modern duct shops use a mix of laser cutting (highest precision and quality, ideal for stainless and complex fittings), plasma cutting (fast and cost-effective for galvanized) and shearing (simple straight cuts for high-volume work). Most full-scale duct factories run at least one of each.

How it works. Cutting machines for duct fabrication take flat sheet or coil stock and convert it into the blanks that downstream forming machines will work on. Modern equipment is CNC controlled — operators import the cutting pattern from CAD or nest it interactively on the controller, and the machine cuts the full sheet automatically with minimal kerf and consistent edge quality.

Where this fits in your workshop

Cutting, bending and forming machines are the upstream stations of any duct workshop. Coil stock is sheared to length, scored and bent into the duct shape, and then handed off to the seam closer or the TDF former. On an SBAL-V auto duct line these operations are integrated into a single coil-to-duct line; on a manual or semi-auto workshop they are stand-alone stations operated by 2–4 staff. SBKJ supplies the full upstream set — coil line, plasma cutter, folder, beader, rollformer — either matched to one of our auto lines or as individual replacements for ageing equipment.

Operator and maintenance notes. The Sheet Metal Shearing Machine is designed to be run by a single trained operator under normal conditions. Daily checks include lubrication of the forming rolls, inspection of the drive belts and chain tension, and a clean-down of the tool surfaces. Weekly checks add electrical cabinet inspection and a torque check on the main frame fasteners.
