Typical applications. Round flange machines produce the bolted angle iron rings that connect spiral duct sections, particularly for industrial dust collection, kitchen exhaust and material handling installations where higher pressure ratings or service-removable joints are specified. How it works. Round flange machines roll angle iron stock into a circular ring that matches the outside diameter of the spiral duct it will join. Bolt-hole punching is performed in a separate operation (or on a combined forming-and-punching line for higher-volume work). The finished flange is welded or riveted to the spiral duct end and provides a bolted, gasketted joint that is service-removable.

Where this fits in your workshop

TDF and lockformer machines are second-stage stations on a rectangular duct line: the duct sheet is cut to size on the coil line, scored and bent into the duct shape on a folder, and then the longitudinal seam is closed on a Pittsburgh or snaplock former. The TDF flange is roll-formed onto the duct ends as the very last step before corner blocks and shipping. On a fully integrated SBAL-V auto duct line, the TDF former is in-line with the cut-to-length shear and there is no separate handling step. On a manual or semi-auto workshop, the TDF former is a stand-alone station immediately after the seam closer.

Operator and maintenance notes. The Spiral Duct Flanging Machine is designed to be run by a single trained operator under normal conditions. Daily checks include lubrication of the forming rolls, inspection of the drive belts and chain tension, and a clean-down of the tool surfaces. Weekly checks add electrical cabinet inspection and a torque check on the main frame fasteners.
