The Australian defence industrial undertaking is in unprecedented expansion. AUKUS Pillar 1 + Pillar 2 (signed September 2021) commits USD 245+ billion through 2055 covering nuclear-powered conventionally-armed submarine acquisition (Virginia-class US-built initially, then Australian-built SSN-AUKUS) and advanced capabilities cooperation across AI, quantum, hypersonics, cyber, electronic warfare, undersea systems and autonomous systems.
